History

Vihterpalu manor was founded in 1586, when Swedish king Johan III gave it to one of his vassals, Berend von Gröning. In 1622 the manor became the property of then Riga burgermeister Thomas Ramm. A quite wealthy man, Ramm was a financier of Gustav II Adolf`s military ventures and in return the king in 1622 gave him Padise monastery along with surrounding lands. Vihterpalu manor`s golden age was in the 1820s, when it was owned by Elisabeth von Ramm`s husband Gustav von Knorring. In 1820 the construction of a late neoclassicist manor house began: the edifice was renovated in that style. The manor has been in private ownership since 2000. The renovationwork was completed in 2005.
